The Barbera grapes for this wine are hand-harvested and transported to the winery in small cassettes to prevent damage to the berries. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks allows the fruit flavors from the high quality grapes to remain prominent in this wine. In the glass, the wine has a saturated ruby color, while the nose is filled with aromas of blackberries, aramena cherries, peonies, and allspice. On the palate, there are also strong black fruit flavors, with hints of balsam fir and cinnamon.
About this wine producer: Gianni Doglia, along with the help of his parents and sister Paola, is the owner and winemaker at his family’s estate, which was founded in 1940 by his grandfather. The 10 hectare (25 acre) estate is located in Castagnole delle Lanze, a town in the province of Asti. Respect for the land is a focus of the Doglia family, who practice sustainable viticulture, with an emphasis on maintaining the biodiversity of the soil. The vineyards of calcareous-clay soil benefit from a mild climate, due to the influence of the Marin winds from the Ligurian coast and the Foehn winds from the Alps in the summer.
