Produced from 100% Sangiovese grapes, this wine is aged for 4 months in “botti grandi.” In the glass, the wine is an intense ruby red color, while the nose evolves with aromas of red cherry, blackberry, violets, and hints of tobacco.
On the palate, the wine is bright and fresh, with fruit flavors that echo the nose.
About this wine producer: In 1920, Elena Pellegrini’s great-grandfather purchased twelve hectares of grain fields and scrub forest located high on the Montosoli hill, north of Montalcino. In 1978, her father, Fabio, planted the first Sangiovese vines on the property, and produced his first Brunello in 1985, a total of 3000 bottles. Elena was pursuing an economics career in Rome when her father announced his intent to retire. “So I left everything in Rome: my friends, my job, the city I loved, in order to continue my family's traditions here. And I have no regrets at all!” After completing studies in agronomy and enology, she returned to the family farm, and formally took charge of the estate in 2014. There are currently five hectares of under vine, “always farmed organically,” Elena told me. “We want to ensure the sustained good health of our land.”
