Brunello di Montalcino Maurizio Lambardi 2009

Brunello di Montalcino Maurizio Lambardi 2009

In 2010, a Wine Spectator 100-point vintage that James Suckling has called “the greatest modern vintage of Italy’s most famous wine region,” Maurizio Lambardi made the wine of his lifetime.

In the glass, this Brunello di Montalcino has a limpid, saturated deep garnet color, with ruby red flashes and bright mahogany at the edge (genuine Brunello is never opaque dark purple). The nose is haunting; with ripe amarena cherries, sweet white tobacco, balsam needles, and eucalyptus moving in and out of the background, sometimes changing places with cedar and dark chocolate, along with a fleeting suggestion of dried cranberries and hyacinth. On the palate, the wine is generous and silky, with mineral-laced, ripe red berries and sweet Tuscan herbs, all bracketed by ripe dusty tannins and softly integrated strawberry acidity, which carries the flavors through a long elegant finish. Drink now – 2030.
